Camille Claudel nursery school (76)
Oissel, Seine-Maritime
Inaugurated in January this year, the Simone Veil school complex in Evreux (27) is a new building with capacity for almost 300 primary school pupils, divided into 15 classes.
Located in a verdant setting along the Rue du Bois des Communes, the new facility is connected to existing facilities (extracurricular reception and sports complex) and has been designed using a maximum of natural materials and the latest advances in eco-construction technology, with bio-sourced materials for the insulation and geosourced materials for the facade. The building’s low energy consumption guarantees the comfort and health of our young pupils.
The environmental approach is based on the principles of bioclimatism, combining energy performance, low carbon impact and indoor air quality. To comply with current thermal and environmental regulations, the low-energy building envelope is clad withframed cladding (ventilated facade). The overall project, which was aiming for E+C- certification (a pre-RE2020 experiment), thus achieves the Passivhaus standard.
The combination of materials used is a key factor in the success of this project: the wooden structure (timber frame construction) rests on a concrete backbone. Walls and roofs were insulated with bio-sourced materials: compacted straw, encased in wooden caissons. The cladding, meanwhile, is geosourced: the facade, which is mineral in nature, is made up of over 80% geosourced mineral fillers sourced near our production sites.
The facade cladding is made of CAREA Ardal and Acantha slabs in the following finishes Velvety Smoothappearance, with the choice of a warm, metallic Onyx Cuivre color.
The architect wanted to extend the copper look to the fifth façade, so the same claddings were used for the roof overhang, following a feasibility study by the CAREA design office and its support in making technical suggestions and validating the system.
