BIM according to CAREA

The fundamentals

Don’t confuse BIM with digital mock-up

BIM
was born of the desire of the building industry and software publishers to exploit the 3D and attribute possibilities of computer tools to meet the needs of the construction sector.

It’s hard to find a universal definition of BIM (Building information Modeling). BIM is, first and foremost, a working method applied to the creation of 3D parametric digital models containing structured data.

The aim of BIM is to optimize the sharing of information throughout the lifecycle of a building or infrastructure, from design to deconstruction.

Digital mock-up is a tool for digitally representing the physical and functional characteristics of a building or infrastructure.

In the course of a collaborative project, the players work individually to develop their respective models, which, once brought together, make up the digital model of the project.

BIM levels and levels of detail

BIM levels are used to classify its level of operation by a building stakeholder.
It is generally accepted that :

  • in 2D we talk about level 0,
  • in simple 3D, level 1A,
  • in 3D + level 1B attributes,
  • collaborative 3D level 2.

LoD (Level of Details) is used to classify the quality of representation of a 3D digital object.
In the design phase, LOD varies according to attribute and geometric details:

  • LoD 100: simplified representation of an object (operational phase: sketch and APS),
  • LoD 200: enhanced object representation (operational phase: APD and PRO),
  • LoD 300: definitive representation of an object + technical attributes (operating phase: EXE).

Our approach to meeting your challenges

Carea facade v4b BIM animation

Digital innovation, driven by BIM, now makes it possible to anticipate site constraints right from the project design stage. It’s clear that your needs differ between the sketch and the production of the Dossiers de Consultation d’Entreprise (DCE). As a supplier, CAREA makes it a point of honor to support building designers at every stage of the project. With this in mind, we have embarked on a process of opening up to BIM in order to sequence our database in accordance with currently recognized BIM classifications.
