Carea supplied stone-colored cladding for this project, a new construction costing almost £15 million in the heart of Liverpool, contributing to the landscaping of the city’s financial district. Designed and conceived by the architects of Falconer Chester Hall, this building is part of the development of InterContinental Hotels’ new hotel brand: Hotel Indigo. This is the fourth hotel of its kind in the UK, but it will soon be followed by others across the country, given the success of the brand (Newcastle, Birmingham and 2 more hotels in London).
With the town center in full development, the aesthetics of the building were of crucial importance. Located on Chapel Street, one of the original 7 streets of the 13th-century medieval town, the hotel replaced a public guesthouse. With its historic surroundings, the 6-storey hotel had to blend in with its surroundings while adding a modern touch.
The colors used both inside and out were specially selected to reflect the building’s history, which is linked to the cotton trade. With its interplay of Mineral and glass, the façade lends the building all the cachet necessary for a modern boutique hotel.
For this project, Carea supplied 2,000 m² of Cladding in a range of colors, from light beige to darker grays, to liven up the façade and complement the multicolored glass sections.
Cladding installation is quick and easy, thanks to the groove and rail system, which makes it simple to lay out and achieve a perfect finish.
Once installed, the complete facade (cladding, frame and insulation) offers good thermal performance and eliminates thermal bridges. The façade is also resistant, aesthetically pleasing and has good acoustic properties. Thanks to its non-porous Mineral nature, it is also easy to maintain, reducing maintenance costs.
Opened in 2011, the building fits perfectly into the city’s development dynamic and, with its aesthetically pleasing, sustainable exterior, is a perfect fit with Liverpool’s future.
