Tour des Mourinoux (92)
Asnières-sur-Seine, Hauts-de-Seine
Recognized by its unique facade, The Gateway has already won multiple awards. The new complex comprises five independent but interconnected buildings, surrounding a landscaped communal space. The former timber depot on which it was built, in the east of Leeds city center, inspired some interesting shapes.
Designed by Carey Jones Architects, the project will eventually comprise 70,000 m² of development, including 620 apartments, a 215-bed hotel, 4,500 m² of office space and 2,250 m² of mixed-use retail space, with parking for 425 vehicles. It is intended to be a catalyst for the renaissance of Leeds’ eastern districts and a link between the city center and previously isolated areas.
Carey Jones’ collaboration with the city’s chief architect, John Thorp, resulted in a contemporary, interior-oriented design. It is the result of a direct analysis of the site, focusing as much on the surroundings as on the interior environment. The colors chosen for the exterior maintain the integrity of the buildings’ form. To achieve the desired effect, Carey Jones specified reflective green cladding in Carea Mineral Composite panels, complementing the building’s contemporary style. This bold facade, punctuated by a vast glazed atrium and large windows, creates a strong contrast with the red-brick residential buildings that abound in central Leeds. It emphasizes the building’s curved forms and draws attention to its architectural boldness.
Carea supplied over 5,000 m² of cladding, in a brilliant aquamarine color that matches the building’s green copper.
